HOW TO USE AKI

Unbox and place your AKI lamp on flat surface. Glass It is at once fragile and at the same time incredibly strong.
Before using the lamp adjust the wick to the max height of 5 mm. Refill your lamp following the refill instructions. We suggest filling it halfway only to best enjoy the aesthetic of the glass and prevent excessive heating.

  1. Leave the wick to become fully saturated for approximately 15 minutes before lighting it. We recommend using a good lamp oil and a wick that allows for proper combustion. The lamp will burn around 50 ml of oil per hour if the flame doesn’t get too high.
  2. For optimum performance, burn your lamp for a maximum of 3 hours at a time. Keep the wick adjusted to
approximately 5mm and replace it regularly.
  3. Do not place an oil lamp and a candle close together. Avoid draughts and air currents to prevent rapid burning, flame flickering and eventual sooting. The oil lamp can burn steadily without emitting soot if the ambient air is calm.
  4. When burning your lamp inside, we recommend opening the windows after blowing it out to let in fresh air.
  5. Always snuff out the flame. Do not blow it out and do not move a burning oil lamp.
  6. When you stop burning the lamp regularly, take out the oil and wash your AKI. We suggest to take the burned wick out and replace it with a new one. AKI will be a wonderful decorative object on your shelf.

    IMPORTANT CARES:
    • Store and use the lamp out of the reach of children and animals
    • An oil lamp should not be placed on any heat-sensitive materials and should always sit on a flat, stable surface
    • Never leave a burning lamp unattended or burn your lamp near anything flammable
    • Before adjusting or changing the wick, wait for the metal stopper to cool down
    • Remember to extinguish the oil lamp when leaving the room

GOOD TO REMEMBER

  • If you suffer from any skin disorders or dermatitis avoid contact with oil and eventually wear gloves.
  • Prolonged contact with lamp oil can cause dryness and skin irritation. Wash skin with soap and water and rinse thoroughly.
  • The lamp oil is a flammable hydrocarbon oil (alkane derivatives – so called paraffin oil) that is highly refined and purified to burn in an odorless, soot-free manner.
  • Lamp oil is transparent, colourless and tasteless and its purity is designed especially for indoor lamps as isn’t highly inflammable.
  • It is important to store your lamp oil in a cool ventilated place, in its original container tightly closed, away from any source of heat, out of direct sunlight.
  • Keep the storage locked out of reach of children.
  • If you use a different lamp oil, we recommend always using a high quality product specifically for oil lamps and indoor use.

Every fuel has a flashpoint that is the lowest temperature a chemical needs to give enough damp that it ignites when it comes into contact with an ignition source. The lower the temperature, the more flammable it is. Use only oils with a flashpoint around 90°C.
Coloured lamp oils are suitable, but we recommend not to use them. They could stain or discolour your lamp and its components. Scented lamp oils on the other side may become smoky while in use. They are best used in oil lamps that have only a fibreglass wick.

WARNING: In the case of small children, just a sip of lamp oil - or even sucking the wick - may lead to life-threatening lung damage.
WARNING: If lamp oil is swallowed, do not induce vomiting. Seek medical advice immediately or contact a poison information centre and show these warnings.

CLEANING & CARES

Note that our AKI lamps are handmade/mouth-blown and small variation in colour, shape, weight or texture may therefore occur. Smaller and subtle air bubbles can be there and this naturally occurs in the work-process when air is trapped between different layers of glass.

On daily basis, use glass cleaner on the item with a dry microfiber cloth. Wipe the lamp dry and shiny.
Remember that some cleaning products can leave streaks on glass, so make sure you use one specifically for glass items.
Always handle with care.

AKI lamps are not dishwasher safe. Gently hand-wash the lamp with a neutral and mild detergent (e.g. degreasing agent) with warm water.Carefully shade it to spread the detergent and get rid of any trace of oil. Rinse it well, and rotate it to pour away any remaining water. Dry it with a tea towel and put it upside down of a dishrack in vertical position so that air can flow inside. If you do not have a comfortable one for this purpose, lay the lamp it on one side to dry and from time to time change its side.
Never use any scourers, abrasives or strong chemical cleaners on your lamp as it could damage the glass surface.
